How We Work
Understanding Cataracts
A cataract is the clouding or opacification of the crystalline lens, the eye’s natural, transparent lens located behind the iris. Its function is to focus light onto the retina to produce a clear image. Over time, usually due to aging, the proteins within the lens clump together, causing this opacity.

What Cataract Surgery Involves
Cataract surgery is a common and highly effective outpatient procedure performed to restore vision. It is a safe procedure typically done under local anesthesia. The intervention consists of two main steps:
Removal of the Cloudy Lens: A micro-incision is made to access the opacified lens (the cataract). Using advanced technology (usually phacoemulsification), the surgeon carefully fragments and suctions out the cloudy natural lens while preserving the posterior capsule that holds it.
Intraocular Lens (IOL) Implantation: Once the natural lens is removed, an artificial, foldable Intraocular Lens (IOL) is implanted into the same position. This new clear lens replaces the function of the natural lens and is designed to last a lifetime, restoring the focus of your vision.
